GS1 Integration

Why using standards makes the system scalable.

GS1 is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to global standards like the barcode. They are committed to accelerating the circular transition and take various initiatives to enable this through digital product passports.

Why integrate GS1 standards into Circulaid

By integrating GS1 standards, we ensure that Circulaid becomes interoperable and scalable, allowing us to scale up the deposit system and support larger fashion brands.

  • Interoperable → By using universal serial numbers, Circulaid product passports can be linked to third-party platforms, applications, and services in the future. This makes the platform modular and complementary to other solutions on the market.

  • Scalable → Universal standards also enable Circulaid to communicate with other IT systems in the fashion industry. This allows us to handle larger volumes and make the deposit system more efficient, which will eventually allow us to support larger fashion chains.

How we will integrate it

We are actively in contact with GS1 to explore the technical implementation of their standards. Our own unique product numbers will eventually be replaced by unique GTINs, which will make the process of creating passports more efficient. The integration of GS1 standards is within scope for phase 2 of further system development, scheduled for January 2025 - September 2027.
